Book review: The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks

This is a great book! I loved it…I know I know I always say that guess I don’t pick bad books. Smile

Taylor McAden is volunteer fireman living in a small southern town; this is a man who has been through a lot in his life. His father was killed when he was 9 years old and he carries the guilt with him everywhere, he simply cannot fall in love, but he tries, at all cost to save people who need help.  One night during a horrible storm he is driving around looking for downed power lines when he comes across a car that has gone off the road. He rescues the young woman who was driving, Denise Holton, but then discovers she had a 4 year old son, Kyle in the car also. Kyle has disappeared! This would not be an easy task to accomplish in the dark swampy area where the accident occurred, but it is made more difficult because they have to check every inch since Kyle does not talk.

This romantic book takes you through their journey of falling in love but then trying to turn back to avoid any possible pain. Another turn of events has a huge impact on the outcome at the end of the book, one that makes him to open doors to his past that he intentionally shut to avoid the pain. You think after the first couple of chapters that “The Rescue” has already taken place but then you realize you are only ¼ of the way through the book. This is a great book that I think even young adults would enjoy.
