Little dog goes to the vet! Part 2

Maverick

Everyone seemed to enjoy the story of Maverick when he went to the vet to get ready for his little “surgery”.  He did finally fully recover from his first trip, and about 2 days before his scheduled “surgery” he was back to eating and behaving normally. Well last Friday was the big day for his little “surgery”.

To start we had to take away all food and water from about 10:00 pm the night before. That went pretty good we just picked up everything and just didn’t look at him! No really he did ok. I took him to the vet at about 9:45 Friday morning. Everyone had told me it would be harder on me than it was on him. Well I wasn’t too sure about that because he isn’t too keen on someone picking him up that he doesn’t know them; but we actually got to the vet and the whole waiting room was quiet and empty! So that was nice; I checked him in and he was shaking a little but I had brought his favorite toy to stay with him, Monkey! So that made him feel better; ok never mind, it was brought because it made me feel better! So I gave him to the attendant, actually afraid he was going to bite her, but he didn’t, she was really good and just took him quick. That was where I pretty much lost it, yea I teared up! I go out to the truck, call my husband and inform him, that was AWFUL!

The office had said I could call at about 4:30 to check on him. I called right at 4:30 and they told me he was doing well. I hung up the phone and then got to wondering, what were they supposed to tell me? Of course they are going to say he’s doing well, they already know I’m a basket case! Boy the house was quiet that night. Cricket didn’t know what to think. But she was very very good and maybe just a little glad that he was gone? You know when someone has a baby and that first baby is great, well-mannered, and perfect? Then they have a 2nd child and that one is hyper-active strong willed, hard to control, you know the type, but never the less they still love that child the same. Well that is Maverick! This dog should have been named “Sheldon” after the character on “Big Bang Theory”! He has to have everything the exact same every day! If one thing in the house is changed or even a jacket is hung on the back of the chair, he goes nuts. Even when I wash the sheets on the bed, the smell is different and he barks at the bed! He DOES NOT accept change very well. At about 9:00 pm every night he runs around the house just barking for no reason. So anyway, he drives us nuts sometimes but we still love him very much and it was very quiet around here without him. About drove me nuts!

Saturday morning finally gets here and I can’t wait to go get him. I arrive at vet at about 9:45, get all his paper work done so I can just leave when they bring him out. They call to the back for him to be brought up and not to forget “Monkey”. Oh, the reunion! It was great, he was so happy to see me and I was just as happy to see him! Poor guy not only did get neutered but also had 2 teeth pulled and toenails clipped! We go outside he does his little business and we head home. We get there and he comes in the house all happy to see everyone, even friendly with our visitors that were there! You can tell he’s still kind of drugged up but he’s doing so good, it’s like he saying “ok I’ll never be mean again!”

We almost through our first week and he seems to be doing good. No swelling, eats pretty good, and he’s just about back to normal on his craziness! He does seem to have a little pain or discomfort from time to time but I think the hardest part is keeping his activity to a minimum for 7 - 10 days! Whew! That’s tough but we’re almost there! I’m just really glad this is over and I told him that unless he gets real sick he never has to spend the night again. Smile
