Dog left in car to die during American Idol auditions

Published by sherpherdmom at 7:12 am under Dogs, Living, Odds and Ends, Pets, Travel Edit This

While the auditions were going on in Denver, CO Tuesday a little dog was left in the car. Well any normal person with any common sense would know it is summer, even in Colorado, and it’s going to get hot. Yes it did get hot in Colorado on Tuesday and because this little dog did not have responsible owners, he over heated and died.
The Denver Post reported that the little terrier’s owner had driven from North Dakota so his girlfriend could audition for American idol. Tuesday morning they left the dog in the car with the windows rolled all the way up. Early in the morning the temperatures were comfortable but as the day heated up, so did the interior of the car. So much so that by the time the owner finally went to check on the dog at 2:00 pm he was already dead. Denver temperature at 2:00 pm was 90 degrees and the car was parked on asphalt so the interior temperature was considerably higher.
Owner, Quincy Alexander, age 24 was charged with one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty. I have no idea if girlfriend was picked to go on from her audition but I sure hope not.
Did you know?

  • Even if the outside temperature is just 78 degrees, temperatures in a car parked, with windows rolled up, in the shade can exceed 90 degrees. It’s much higher and can hit 160 degrees if parked in the sun!
  • With outside air temperature is in the 60s, temperatures inside some vehicles can reach the danger zone on bright, sunny days.

Don’t chance the life of your pet or even children; never leave them unattended in a parked car!
