Book review: Clara - The Early Years
This is a delightful and humerous story about a dog, well Pug to be exact, and how she runs her family’s life.
Margo Kaufman lives in California with her husband, son, and two pugs. She is a columnist for the Los Angeles Times, and also writes for The New York Times. She is also on the panel of the National Public Radio news/quiz program Wait! Wait! Don’t Tell Me! She is also the Hollywood correspondent for Pug Talk magazine, plus she has written other books like 1-800-Am-I-Nuts? and This Damn House! After reading this book I am going to have to check into her other books because if they are as funny as this one then they will be a great read also.
Margo takes you though a journey of owning pugs. The pug in this story is actually her 4th pug to own. She prides herself for always treating her dogs as dogs. Well that is until Clara comes along. Clara takes it upon herself to make herself noticed and not only to Margo and her husband, but with anyone she comes into contact with. She steels the show everywhere she goes.
Margo also takes us through the long and tiring proces of adopting a child from overseas. The book has a great ending and anyone who has ever had pets in the house can understand this author’s great observations and the things that go on in their lives. For anyone who loves animals, and just about any age, Clara is a must read!
