The running of the bulls!

This is a wild event! It takes place every year in Spain. This even to Spain is like the Super Bowl or the World Series is to Americans. Well except that is is WAY more dangerous!

Crowds come from all over the world to watch this event. The running of the bulls is part of a festival called Fiesta of San Fermin, and has gone on since the 1800’s. Thousands of people line the streets to watch the bulls run and many are even brave enough (well if you want to call it bravery) actually run with the bulls. Many of the runners carry a rolled up newspaper to help gauge the distance between them and the bull.  Needless to say there are many injuries every year. There have even been deaths (a total of 14) as a result of the pileups or accidents that happen when one or more people running with the bulls trip causing the others to fall behind them.

They run the bulls everyday from July 7th through July 14. There are about 2000 people running with the bulls on weekdays and about 3500 on the weekends.  If you are ever in Pampolona Spain around the 2nd week of July this is really an even worth seeing. There are balconys you can rent where you can watch safely.
